Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Lost

Match report We held the top position in the B League for 2 weeks in advance of this game, so our spirits were high. We also knew that Locks Heath A's hadn't lost a league game during 2016....

Our last home league game of the season saw The Mighty U9C's take on Locks Heath A's on another sunny evening at St Helens.

We welcomed Bethan Watkinson, Henry O'Hara, Ruban Farrow and Bertie Noyce to our team this week as many of our regular team players were on holiday. Henry and Bertie were our Super Subs / XIIth Men, playing in their first competitive match for the C Team. Well done boys, hope you had fun !

Locks Heath won the toss and elected to bat first.

Our brave bowlers did extraordinary well against some very accomplished Locks Heath batsmen. Heath Maxwell was the only Portsmouth bowler to break down the opposition's blistering attack, taking 2 wickets in the last over. Well done Heath !

It has to be said that our bowling was very straight, with only 19 wide runs being conceded. So, with the majority of good balls being pitched to the Locks Heath batsmen, it was no surprise that they could hit the ball around the park.

No wide balls from Monty, Jack, Oscar and Henry, well done boys, good job !

Locks Heath amassed 376 runs.

We had a discussion at the change over as to what target we should set ourselves - most thought 400 runs was a good target, but there were some who were a little reticent. We decided that we were going to have a good crack at it anyway....

Jack and Oscar took to the stage first and put up a brave fight. Tom and Ruban battled hard, George D and Monty followed and between them pushed the score up to 213. It was very tough. As the last pair, Heath and Bethan put on 30 runs between them and were the most prolific run scorers in this game, but we fell short, losing a total of 9 wickets and managing a total of just 232 runs, our lowest score of the season.

It has to be noted that Oscar and Ruben were the only Portsmouth players who did not loose their wicket. Well done boys !

Man of The Match - Heath Maxwell for his batting and bowling performance. Well done!

We did however manage to boost the team moral as somehow (and much to the delight of Tom), the Team Manager had managed, in error, to arrange TWO Match Teas - Yum Yum....I'm sure that this isn't the first time this has happened and I reckon it's unlikely to be the last....

So my apologies to Tim and Caitlin for the duplication, thank you for being so understanding. Thanks to Oscar for running the team and umpiring and Jeanette for collecting the match fees.
