Trojans v Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 1st XI on Sat 07 Jun 2008 at 1300
Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Won Trojans 108, Portsmouth 109/2
Match report
Continuing to be asked to bowl 1st Portsmouth eased through the Trojans batting line up who never looked like putting a significant total. Daisy (4/29 from 10) and Sajid (2/11 from 8) again set the tone taking 5 wickets n the combined opening spell, while Daisyt picked up his 4th later in the innings.
On a day where one of the umpires didnt understand the leg side wide rule and allowed many leg side deliveries to legally pass by, the Portsmouth captain and his bowlers will not be happy with the 18 wides that were bowled, and when added to the 5 no balls and byes/leg byes, extras topped the board with a significant 34, and has now hit 117 for the season in just 5 games, from a total run haul of only 468, EXACTLY A QUARTER OF THE RUNS CONCEDED!! Despite this having taken 50 for 468 there is still much the Portmouth is doing right.
James Scott continued to play his part, chipping in with 2 wicket while Kam just added the 1 to take s season tally into double figures. A typically miserly and brief spell again from Nav saw the innings wrapped up taking 1 for 2 from 4.1 overs.
In reply there was only one way that Portsmouth were going to finish the game and that was quickly. With Matthew Scott rapidly running out of oxygen after having held his breath since he entered the "S-O" postcode at 11:45 earlier that day, his only option was to take to the Trojans "attack", after smasing 10 from one of the opening bowlers 1st overs he proceded to smash him for a further 26 from his 2nd, soon after being dismissed for and entertained, and possible life saving innings of 54 from just 25 balls. James Moon started carefully at the other end dodging the ball as Scotty pounded it around the park, and then picking up 1's and 2's before his launched his own barrage of boudaries.
Closing in on the final total and with scotty now in serious trouble on the side of the pitch literally dieing for some fresh pompey air, a mix up between Nav and Jamie left Moon well short looking for a 3rd. On the plus side James has now qualified for the Olympics this summer in the the recently introduced cricket bat throw and has made him self strong favourite after showing a glipmse of his power launching his bat high above the southampton smog and almost off the pitch following his dismissal. Sam then joined the crease for another not out to watch Nav hit the winning runs after 12.4 overs and another 5pm finish as Portsmouth pick up another 21 point haul.
