Match report Another maths lecture tonight. ZZZzzzzz….. A 20 over match equates to 120 balls faced by each side. Steep managed to bowl 78 "dot balls" at us (no runs). We will not win games if we can't score runs.

The upside was we only lost 2 wickets....It's a difficult balance for an U11 player to get the runs to win the game and at the same time not throw your wicket away - we are learning all the time.

Steep, on their undulating ground, ramping up to the pavilion and down to the car park posted 136 for 3 wickets off their 20 overs - just 43 dot balls off our bowling.

To highlight the difference between the two teams, 35% of the balls Steep faced from us tonight resulted in no score whilst 65% of all the deliveries we faced were straight and we didn't manage to generate a run.

So combined, the extras, lack of runs and ability to get wickets cost us the game.

Maths lesson over.

It was tough, but there were highlights to pick out such as James' catch off Alex's bowling in over 4, Rio pinning the Steep number 3 batsman back on to his stumps and Bethan's wicket on the penultimate over - middle stump smashed, clean bowled.

There were memories to be cherished for our last batting pair James and Alex BH who, combined, hit 34 off the last four overs to make our score look half respectable. James with a great 6 off his first ball followed by a couple of singles and fours and a 5 off the last ball of the innings, Alex supporting with his perfectly timed own 4 down to fine leg, shooting up the hill and across the boundary rope - the shot of the match for me.

Their efforts were the more enjoyable moments of the game and woke everyone up to enjoy the final few minutes, giving us some hope that we could at least get somewhere close to Steep's tally.
