Match report On a slightly damp track, Portsmouth U9As faced the tough challenge of Grayshott. Henry, who was today’s captain, won the toss and elected to field. What followed was an outstanding team performance, with everyone giving 110 per cent. Some impressive batting by Grayshott was matched by some equally brilliant bowling and fielding in a game that was always going to be close. There were great bowling performances from Thomas, Ethan and Edward who took two wickets each, but all the boys contributed, helping to restrict our opponents to 94 for 8.

After some quick drinks, our batsmen set about the task of reaching the target. It was pleasing to see the work we have been doing over the last couple of week on backing up and calling, paying off as Portsmouth kept the chase alive with some excellent running between the stumps. The U9As did not have it all their own way, as Grayshott were relentless in keeping the pressure on the Team, with some lively and accurate bowling, forcing some good defensive shots from both George and William. Top scorers were William (12) and Ethan (22), however I have to stress that all the boys contributed, Henry (8), Edward (10) etc. In the end Portsmouth ran out winners by 16 runs.
