Sarisbury Athletic B v Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 U11 Daring on Tue 12 Jun 2018 at 6.00pm Confirmed (West)
Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Won by 82 runs
Match report
A Legend is someone or something whose Coolness extends beyond all space and time. We were entertained by a few Cricketing Legends at Sarisbury's Allotment Road ground tonight. Some were Cool, most were verging on Awesome, we occupied the space (and crease) and took our moment in time to win the game comfortably.
Our Captain tonight was Kiera who incorrectly guessed the flip, the only thing which didn't go our way tonight. Sarisbury opted to bowl first.
Ben, our Vice Captain and George H were our opening batsmen. They piled on a nifty 31 runs, cracking 4's and sneaking singles, rotating the strike with the loss of just 1 wicket. Good start boys.
Adam and William H were our second pair adding a similar number of runs and again just 1 wicket lost. This was looking like a walk in the park and The Manager felt good. Maybe we could win this one if we played Sensible Cricket. Heard that one before?
We welcomed Will to the team in his first game for Portsmouth Cricket Club. Another quality signing for us this season, we hope you enjoy your cricket with us William.
The next paring brought our Captain Kiera and Edward T together. Edward, our secret weapon and U9A player, standing in for us due to an earlier a school match which overlapped our start. We watched some great running from them - 2's and some quick singles - we were just 4 wickets down at the half way stage with 97 on the board.
The Marchmen brothers marched confidently out to begin their innings, and what a treat they had in store - Arthur with 3 x 4's and an enormous heave which easily cleared the boundary for 6 runs. Freddie, in an important supporting role to his brother and contributing with a 4 of his own.
It was all very Sensible, but at the same time enjoyable to watch. Oh, and i forgot to mention neither Brother lost their wicket, least of all by a Run Out which, so i am told, is the norm....Maybe this was a different kind of legend? I had never seem them play before so it must have been the legend of an unrealistic story depicting past events. All I knew was that Mum was pleased - they were definitely Cool in my eyes.
Archie and Jake, again a pairing I hadn't seen before, took us to the end of the innings without loss and the addition of 27 runs. I guess you could say 161 for 4 off 20 was our "Sub Total".
Sarisbury started their innings on 20 due to the loss of our 4 wickets - The Legendary Coolness continued for us as we took wicket after wicket in each of the first 5 overs. Indeed, all but one of our bowlers bagged a Sarisbury scalp. George H and Will topping the Cool Wall as Jeremy Clarkson would say, with 2 each, Kiera with an accomplished catch to assist George H to his 2 and George H assisting William with a good take - a real team effort.
Our fielding was sharp, none more so than Ben's stinging stop leaving a cherry not on his bat but on his right hand - it's true, I saw it with my own eyes, deep red marks with the seam still imprinted across his palm 30 mins after the game had finished....or was it Pizza, i'm not too sure.
Arthur, our wiki tonight was solid and stopped the majority of what passed the batsmen unpunished, just 2 byes. Thank you Arthur.
We finished on 216 for 4 v Sarisbury's 134 for 10 - An all round great performance and one to cherish.
PoTM and again, no Curly Wurlies; I'll be writing to The Chairman. So many letters to write..... Is it only Portsmouth CC where a young cricketer can get chocolate sustenance after a game?
*****Kiera - For her solid catch - it had snow on it when it re-entered earth's atmosphere - you don't see many held from that height.
*****Arthur - For his top score of 18 and heave for 6 runs. Boom !
***** Jake for his Maiden over, 1 wicket for just 1 run off 2 overs. Mean, and just what we needed tonight.
***** George H - 2 wickets for just 4 runs. Legend.
Thank you to Oscar for Umpiring again tonight and to Simon for directing the Team by TXT from his armchair somewhere in Portsmouth - It's Gosport away in 2 days time, lets make that game a Legend to remember also.
