Match report Another trip to our friends at Waterlooville, this time with the U9Cs under the captaincy of Viola.

After losing the toss, our opponents chose to bat. First up was Fraser, who proceeded to bowl brilliantly, ending up with figures 0/2 or two wickets for 0 runs, in his 2 overs. Our other bowlers all contributed well, taking six wickets in total, including Sam (from Waterlooville) who took a brace and Darby and Noah who took a wicket each.

Particularly pleasing during our time in the field was the backing up and way we restricted easy singles, with just one run given away due to an overthrow, the smallest number in any game this season.

This good performance in the field restricted Waterlooville’s score and left Portsmouth with a target of 132.

Opening the batting Fraser, set about cutting down this target, helped by his pairs partner Noah. Again everyone contributed scoring runs, while defending their wicket. Top scorers were Fraser (27), Sam W (15) and Edward (14).

Particularly impressive was the intelligent batting of our final pair of Edward and Sam T, who knew that we were ahead and only giving away wickets could snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Facing some tight bowling in the final over this pair ensured no wickets were given away. Eventually finishing on 141 for 5 and securing the first U9C’s victory of the season.

It was testament to the way our team played that every player could have won the man of the match, but in the end the Coach’s choice went to our super sub Sam, lent to us by Waterlooville, while the Manager’s award went to Viola, who batted with tremendous courage, faced down six balls from a very talented bowler from Waterlooville and persevered with her own bowling.

A huge thanks to Waterlooville who lent us a player called Sam, Coach Doug and to Tim for scoring.
