Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024

Scorecard

Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 U11 Daring v Southern Stars on Wed 04 Jul 2018 at 6.00pm Confirmed (West)
Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Won by 40 runs

Match report Two plus two is four, minus one that's three quick maths. Everyday Man's on the block.....For those of you down with the kids, the song is a 2017 classic by Big Shaq. It's an original, not a throwback to the 1930's.

In my haste to explain some very simple maths in last weeks report, I accidentally generated the incorrect number of runs allocated to the Havant team for the loss of 5 of our wickets. The quick maths is of course 5 (wickets) x 5 (runs) equals 25 and not 30 as I stated in the report. Man's Not Hot, Never Hot.

Another correction to last week's game report was the omission by The Manager to explain and acknowledge the third and most painful looking injury of the last match. That of Rio and his twisted knee. It needed Ice, Ice, Baby. I'm sure he was off washing up duties for the rest of the week. We wish him well for a speedy recovery.

And so, with the maths corrected and washing up piled high in the sink, on to today's game.

I confess I spent most of the game negotiating with the SS Parents to ensure that there was a Match Tea available for both sides at the end of the game, so please excuse any omissions.

Our Captain today was Monty who correctly guessd the flip and elected to put Southern Stars in to bat.

The opening bowlers were Heath and George who bowled well and by the 4th over we had two run outs courtesy of Bethan and Jake and the Stars on just 20runs. Another good start guys.

Alex BH and Jake came in as second pair and added another wicket, Monty assisting Jake with a catch which I understand was one to remember. Sorry Monty, I didn't see it, I was still negotiating the match tea. The score was 47 for 3 off 8. Content.

The Two Wills were the third bowling pair with some very mean balls, Will H with a wicket maiden and Will BH very close to a maiden himself. Well done guys.

Ben R and Monty were the Daemon Pair as far as I was concerned - (still negotiating food)....Ben with a wicket and Monty with a maiden and just 1 wide off his first two overs and a wicket, caught and bowled later on on his thrid over.

Bethan, sporting pig tails tonight, was also mean - 11 dot balls (no runs scored) off her 3 overs and contributing a wicket to add to her season haul. She also stood in for the Stars when fielding as they were a player down, as did Alex BH when Bethan came to bat. Thanks guys, very sporting of you.

Heath with the final over and a run out took the Stars' Sub Total to 102 for 7 off their 20.

Drinks arrived, we guzzled the orange nectar in the partched and arrid wasteland which we know as our beloved St Helens - I can't remember the last time it rained. The grass was completely brown and we still have two more weeks of rain free weather forecasted.

By now The Manager had completed the food negotiations and two Star Parents went off to the CoOp to purchase the sustenance our elite athletes would require at the end of the game. Thank you.

The quick maths was easy - Big Shaq calculated that our total should start on 35 - (7wickets lost x 5runs).

Our opening pair were Ben and William BH. They got us off to a good start with the loss of just 2 wickets and a score of 26 off their 4 overs, rotatating the strike with singles and byes, taking opportunity to score runs where they could.

George D and Bethan were next in. Bethan cracking 4's and George D rotating the stike with singles and byes as the pair beforehand. 49 for 3 off 8. Happy.

Now last time we played The Girls, the chat in the field won them the game - no doubt about it, the encouragement of each other's performance got to us. Tonight, The Cricket did the talking.

William H and Monty pitched in with a combined total of 24 off the bat, William H with 3 x 4's - That's 12runs, yes?

The game was now evenly balanced and with 8 overs to go The Manager took the time to discuss the score with the next batting pair. We decided on how to approach the game and then got on with it.

It was PCC 111 v SS 127....

Alex BH and Charlie L added a similar number of runs off the bat as their counterparts, both chipping in 2 x 4's each and just 1 wicket lost. If we didn't loose too many more wickets we would cruise to victory and the waiting Red Cross Parcels.

Jake and Heath amassed the final 22 runs for the loss of 2 wickets and we ended on 182 for 8.

Unlucky Girls, but well played.

MoTM and a Curly Wurly each to:-
***** William H for his all round performance. Top score 20 and bowling figures of 2-1-4-1.
***** Monty for his mean bowling, run out and "Caught and Bowled". 3-1-8-1.

Thanks to Simon for umpiring and for putting the team together, Chris for scribbling our progress, your support and the Southern Star's parents for providing the match tea.
That's three wins on the bounce now. Impressive Portsmouth.
Keep Going !
