Match report HURRAH!!! At the fourth time of asking, the Under 15A team have recorded a win this season!!! The Magnificent 8 (okay, I know there was technically only a Magnificent 7, but still!) as we were one player short, played really well as a team and all of them contributed to a really good all round performance. Matt won the toss and, as always, opted to bat, and he and Jack started the innings superbly. Matt starting the quickest with a flurry of boundaries including a straight 6! However, Jack then overtook him with his own flurry of boundaries, including a pulled 6! Jack retired on 43 and Matt was out soon after. Gio, who has not been out for the B team this season, unfortunately got a golden duck, given out LBW to a ball he was convinced he hit and was nowhere near his stumps! However, Joe and Charlie got the innings back on track and Joseph chipped in with the third 6 of the innings, leaving Rohan and Iori to end the innings. After Rohan was hit on the arm with a ball that clearly left the mark of the seam on his arm and was bowled soon after, Iori carried on as the last man standing and hit the last ball for 4 to finish the innings on an impressive 197 for 6. Fareham and Crofton went off like a train, scoring very quickly in the first few overs, but when their openers retired and were bowled by Gio respectively, they did not have the strength in depth that we had and their scoring slowed down considerably. Charlie chipped in with two wickets, one clean bowled and one caught by Rohan, third time lucky as he was, and still is, utterly convinced that he had already taken two catches from Joseph and Iori, but the Umpires were unmoved by the appeals! Matt and Joseph also got wickets, bowling players out and a neat bit of fielding by Gio caused a run out and Matt had plenty of time to take the bails off as both their batsmen were at the other end of the pitch! It was a shame that we did not quite bowl them all out (although we may have taken one more wicket if the Umpires had listened to the shouty scorer who tried to add an extra ball to the innings!) However, we kept them down to 133 for 6, so a comfortable win in the end and a real team effort, which will hopefully kick start the season!
