Match report Well, it seemed like a month since the Under 15B team romped to victory against Portchester...because it nearly was!!! Fortunately, the time did not take its toll on the team, who, bolstered by a different group of Under 13s, produced another very good performance all round. Rohan won the toss and opted to bat, which was a good decision as the light (and heat!) faded quickly towards the end of the match. He and Gio went off very quickly, before Rohan was bowled for 11, but Gio and Joe Smitherman batted very well together, Gio retiring on 40 and Joe being run out for 38. There was a middle order collapse of England (or, rather today, Pakistan!) like proportions, before Joe Stretton and George settled for the last couple of overs, ending on 12 and 8 not out respectively. 146 for 5 and maximum batting points again was very satisfying, although not quite as good a total as 80 for 1 at the mid-point suggested it might be!
So, into the field and, as is our policy with the Bs, everyone bowls at least 2 overs (even though the Purbrook coach had asked us not to bowl all our fast A team players?!?) Billy and George opened very tightly, and the first runs from the bat, as well as the first wicket, came in the fourth over! Joe Stretton took a good catch and set the trend as Joe Smitherman and Iori also held on to good catches and Billy and Rohan combined for a sharp run out! Their number 4 batsman came in and hit some lusty shots and there was real credit to Adam who was hit for three 4s in his first three balls, but persevered and did not concede another run in his next 9 balls! Once he was out, Purbrook's resistance faltered and Seth was given the honour of bowling the last over, having bowled superbly and was rewarded with the last wicket, ending with figures of one for four from four overs!
So, on to our nemesis of Lock's Heath on Thursday, whose coach i have managed to upset for both the last two seasons, so let's hope I can again!!!
