Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Won by 3 wickets

Match report Finally, Simon managed to pick a winning Team and The Manager doesn't have to resign....He was beginning to wonder if there was a conspiracy but of course there isn't and it was our players who made all the difference tonight.
Three games without a win and the out of form U11A Portsmouth side was under pressure to get a result. It is of course how we respond to the challenge as group which is the true test of a side and tonight we got our reward.
Truthfully, we have played the strongest teams in our league in our opening games this year so Simon and I always knew this was coming.....
The Greyshott team manager was generous in allowing us to start a little later tonight so we could battle our way out of Portsmouth, up the A3 and arrive in good time. It was the longest day after all, so light wasn't too much of an issue later in the game.
Charlie L was our captain tonight and once we had finally managed to toss for the choice of batting first, we got the game on.
Greyshott batted first - Our openers, Heath and Monty took to the Astro, which seemed to have been prepared by Tigger - the bounce being far greater than we have ever experienced - balls popping up on the bouncy surface.
Our first bowling change was George D who, with his 4th ball clean bowled the Greyshott opener. We were on our way.
William H bowled well with just 8 conceded off his 2 overs.
Some unfortunate miss fields and missed catching opportunities which didn't stick gave us something to think about, but we were still bowling well. Darcy with 2 super straight balls delivering wickets for her and the team, (all caught on video by father Paul), complementing James' spin - Both Darcy and James finishing with 2wks off their 3 overs for very few runs.
Bethan chipped in with a wicket of her own, James assisting which proved he can catch after all.
Charlie L, lively behind the stumps as normal, taking returns cleanly and stopping balls from racing to the boundary. He had clearly benefitted from his Wicket Keeping Masterclass with Martyn (AKA Cheese), earlier in the week.
Greyshott batted their overs (18) and finished on 81.
Our innings was underpinned by James' Retired 30 Not Out and Charlie's 14 NO, Bethan chipping in a useful and graceful 18.
We knocked it off in 12 overs for the loss of 3 wickets.
The aforementioned Astro with its lively bounce caught a couple of us out tonight but as a team we won with everyone contributing.
PoM - James for his 30 Retired NO and Bowling figures of 3-0-2-6 (Overs-Maidens-Wickets-Runs Conceded).
PoM - Darcy for her 3-0-2-7 (Overs-Maidens-Wickets-Runs Conceded).
