Gosport U11 v Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 U11 Daring on Wed 05 Jun 2019 at 6.00pm (West)
Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Lost by 4 runs

Match report To loose on the last ball of the game is galling but nonetheless a good game and a reverse of the game last year when Portsmouth won on the last ball. There is something about this fixture which I just cannot put my finger on !
Save to say these two teams are very evenly matched.
The long trek around to Gosport for a 6pm start is always a challenge for parents and with the D Day traffic, more so for this game. We all arrived safely and there were no delays.
Gosport won the toss, elected to bat first and were 2 down after 4 overs with just 17 on the board - a good start from our opening brothers Sam and Joseph Shaw. Sam with a straight bowled effort and 2 balls later the other wicket taken, assisted by Kiera, safely held at square leg.
Edward bagged 2 more in over 6 with a double wicket maiden and Kiera pitched in with a maiden of her own - Rio an over later with a scalp for himself - wickets were tumbling and Gosport were 29 for 5 at the half way stage.
Maya and Ruby-Mae chipped away at the Gosport middle order, Ruby-May getting her reward for a straight ball, clean bowling their number 6 batsman.
Edward took his third on the penultimate ball of the innings, clean bowled, just what we needed to finish.
Gosport finished their innings on 106 with 7 wickets down so Portsmouth started their innings on 35runs.
We were vey happy with the number of wickets taken.
Sam and Joseph opened and swished, took quick singles and byes where they could and by the end of their 4 overs had our score up to 57, again a good start.
Kiera and Rio came next followed by Maya and Ruby-Mae - only 1 wicket lost and our confidence was growing as we crept up to our target.
Veer and Edward were last in, Ed nicking a couple of 4's and Veer supporting well. We did not need to push too hard as we knew that any wickets lost may push the Gosport target out of reach.
By the penultimate over we were 1 run ahead, all we needed to do was defend and that's what we did for 5 balls, sensible cricket.
Unfortunately, we were undone on the last ball of the game - a Yorker -5runs and we loose by 4.
Cake and squash together with our wicket haul and 2 great catches were our only consolation.
A good effort but it was not to be for PCC U11B's tonight.
