Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 3rd XI v Waterlooville 2nds on Sun 09 Aug 2020 at 1.00 PM
Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Won by 7 Wickets
Match report
With the 3rd XI unable to use St Johns for this season todays fixture was re-arranged for a Sunday, which did seem strange playing League cricket on a Sunday. However, this has been a strange season.
The 3rds fielded a mixed side yet again giving youth a chance mixed with seasoned die hards. Winning the toss and electing to field, we were waiting for 3 Under 15's to return from their morning game at Emsworth, so we persuaded Andy Stretton to field borrowing his son Joe's Trainers and James Boorah, the latter jumping at the chance to field!
Overall a good all round bowling performance which didn't offer much to the Waterlooville Batsmen and top of the shop was Tim Bailey taking 3 wickets for 8 runs from just 2 overs.
Of note it was also pleasing to see our developing colts players, Seth Maxwell, Ed Walker, Adam Edwards, Joe Stretton and George Mackenzie all turning their arms over and producing some respectable figures. Also producing a fine display was Matt Walton who volunteered to keep wicket.
At the end of the first innings we had restricted Waterlooville to 183 for 8.
With a mixture of youth and seniors its always difficult to work out the Batting order.
So up stepped Simon Jones and Matt Walton to open the innings against a decent enough Waterlooville attack. Unfortunately the latter departed early in the 2nd over and next in was Simon Boorah who volunteered to bat 3 for Alan Walton due to not feeling too well from the night before!!
A 100 run partnership between the 2 Simons took the game to Waterlooville and when Simon B departed, caught behind for 47, PCC were in the driving seat. Alan Walton, now feeling refreshed from his seat in the shade was next in and nearly steered the side home, but departed LBW for 10 runs.
So it was left to Seth Maxwell and Simon Jones to get PCC over the line managing to do so in 31.4 overs. Seth finishing on 6 Not Out, and Simon Jones on 96.
Next week we move back to a Saturday fixture away to Portsmouth Community at Cockleshell Gardens.
