Match report Umpiring in this heat with a hangover was not the easiest thing to do, but playing in this heat must have been really difficult! However,a great team effort once again saw the Under 15s across the line in a match that started badly for us. With only 7 players at the start, Rohan lost the toss and Petersfield chose to bat, so we had to bowl and field very tightly and we did our very best, Scarlett and Joseph bowling well, but the gaps in the field yielded a number of fours and Petersfield raced to 60 for 0 from 9 overs. However, by then, George had arrived and so we at least had 8 players and the game turned. Bill took the wickets of both their openers in an over, one caught behind by Rohan and one clean bowled, and George took a wicket in the next over, so the scoring slowed down. Iori then came on and took two wickets, another bowled and a good catch by Joseph when the ball was skied and his shout that it was his could have been heard at St Helen's (but not videoed by his Mum who was filming his performance for his DofE!!!) Will then came on and bowled a maiden in the 15th over and Tim wound up the innings with two economical overs, the last of which saw two farcical run outs efficiently dealt with by Rohan and Bill, leaving Petersfield on 121 for 7. As I said to the team at the break (taking over coaching duties from the mighty Peter Howells!) we had not scored less than that all season so if we did not get bowled out, we would win the match, and so it proved. Rohan and Joseph started very well, batting sensibly, but dispatching the bad balls and had reached 32 in the 5th over when Rohan was given out LBW for 13. George came in and, after a slightly stuttery start carried on where he left off at Sarisbury and he and Joseph made the game safe, Joseph retiring on 40 and George and Bill ending on 32 and 17 not out respectively, leaving us on 123 for 1, so gaining maximum points, except for not taking their 8th wicket, and keeping the pressure on Locks Heath. I now need to clean the bathroom and toilets, which will not be any better for my hangover!!!
