Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 News story

Newsletter #17

09 Jul 2020

Dear Friends and Members of Portsmouth Cricket Club

This week has seen arguably the largest change in circumstances for recreational cricket since the Pandemic started. Last Friday (3 July) it was announced that Recreational Cricket could resume and yesterday (8 July) the ECB provided guidelines*. Throughout the summer the ground has been prepared and maintained in hope that this day would come and a big thanks to all those involved including Rick and Barney and due to their hard work we can start competitive matches from the earliest allowable date – this Saturday!

This will mean that there are a number of new (for 2020 anyway) things happening and these are explained in more detail below

*Easy to digest infographics supplied by ECB are available in the Know How section of the website

 Fixtures

It is still early days yet but our fixtures secretary, Simon, is busy working with others including the various leagues to put together fixtures for the rest of the summer, and we hope to have full fixture list for all age group including senior teams and colts.

This will be an evolving story as, and when, fixtures are identified but it is expected that there will be games throughout the week until mid or late September.

One of challenges that will be faced is the availability of wickets as understandably many grounds have not prepared this year reducing suitable venues. An example of how this immediately affects PCC is that we do not have another wicket for our 3rd XI, who will play home matches on Sundays.

The Academy will be starting on Monday the 13th July throughout the summer.
