Match report Hambledon came to Portsmouth, top of the league and undefeated. Hambledon won the toss and decided to field first.
Hambledon immediatley demonstrated quick straight bowling, accompanied by some very good fielding and backing up. Our batters did well to only lose 3 wickets which is a real credit to each player showing commitment & concentration in trying not to give wickets away cheaply. In fact the wickets we lost where as a result of trying to gain an extra run or by attempting to hit over the fielders. Hambledon’s concerted effort restricted Portsmouth to a score of 246, a score to give Portsmouth a fighting chance, though it always felt 20 runs light.
Unfortunately, our bowling was not quite as straight as Hambledon. Hambledon additionally demonstrated some big hitting in the middle of the innings by one player scoring 3 impressive 4's in 7 balls. Ultimately the difference in extras (44 runs Portsmouth) v (21 runs Hambledon) and one batter where enough to allow Hambledon to maintain their winning streak.
