Match report An exhilarating match that came down to the final ball, but more about that later. Under the captaincy of Darby, the boys were asked to field first. I know I say this every week, but the boys put in a great performance in the field with accurate bowling, good backing up and some great catches, in particular Thomas who was fielding at a shortish square leg and Edward who was behind the stumps. After their 16 overs we had restricted Waterlooville to 98 for six.

Following a quick turn around, the boys went into bat. Whether it was the heat, or fatigue, we failed to display our usual aggression. We scored some beautiful singles, from some text book cover drives, but struggled to get the ball over the boundary with our usual regularity. Credit should also go to our opponents who fielded well and made scoring tough.

Coming down to the final pair, it looked like the result was going to the wire and indeed it did. In the final over, a wicket from the first ball meant we were behind by 7 runs and in need of a boundary. And after a quick single boy did we get one - a gloriously timed drive, hitting the ball over the head of the bowler, racing quickly over the boundary. But we were still trailing by two and could our final pair deliver? Well of course they did, running like greased up racing snakes, Rueben and Edward stole two singles, pushing sensible backing up to its limit, but securing the draw.

Man of the match went to Henry today who topped scored for Portsmouth with 19 runs and impressed with the ball, bowling a very rare maiden.

It is clear to me that there have made good progression over the season and although the boys wanted to win, they played really well and were outstanding in the field today.

Well done boys.
