Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 U15 Daring v Emsworth on Thu 26 Jul 2018 at 18.00 Confirmed
Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Won by 8 wickets
Match report
Maximum Points were what we needed to go ahead of Locks Heath top of the League and the lads duly achieved that in the end, although the match did not start well! Joseph lost the toss, so we fielded first, which is never our preferred choice. Although Joe Eales and George started well, Emsworth went off quickly, helped by a lot of byes, including 5 when the ball hit our helmet!!! A misfield from Iori proved the old adage "Never run on a misfield" as Joe Eales swooped round behind him and gave an accurate throw to Adam who swiftly took off the stumps. Emsworth continued to amass runs, mainly from extras until Joseph brought Joe Eales back on and he took a wicket straight away, a sharp catch by Adam down leg side off the batsman's gloves, but he told Pete on his way out in no uncertain terms that he did not agree with his decision, even though Emsworth's umpire and non-striking batsman both agreed with Pete!!! At the drinks break at 10 overs, we told the lads that nearly two thirds of the runs they had conceded had been extras and they needed to tighten up their act, which, to be fair, they did, skittling out the rest of the team cheaply! Iori took two wickets in an over, one LBW and a very good catch by Joe Smitherman. a sensible roll of the ball by Joe Eales to Seth to take the bails off led to another run out, Joseph took a catch from Tim's bowling (which his Mum again failed to video!!!) and then Dougie took 3 wickets in 8 balls, with catches by Tim, Joe Eales and Dougie himself. So, Emsworth were 95 all out, of which 50 runs were extras, which was not great! We needed to lose no more than 5 wickets in our response to achieve maximum points and batted really sensibly Joes Eales and Smitherman had amassed 39 runs before Smitherman was caught and bowled and Eales retired for 40 for the second time against Emwsorth this season, having not given away a chance. Joseph was dropped once as he moved to 21 not out, hitting two consecutive 4s to win the match, and Adam played a very steady innings alongside him, getting 6 not out with a single from almost every ball he faced! Maximum points against Portchester on Sunday will win us the League, so hopefully we can do the same again!
