Locks Heath v Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 U9A Warrior on Sun 24 Jun 2018 at 10.00am
Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Won Team Anderson won 4 games losing in the final and Team Bairstow won 2 games and lost 1.

Match report A glorious sunny day met the boy and girls of Portsmouth's two Team, named Anderson and Bairstow. Team Bairstow which played in pool 3 of the tournament played three games, winning two and narrowly missing out on the third by just 11 runs. This meant the team, which included a couple of the young U9 players, Vi and Sam, missed out on a place in the semi-finals. It is difficult for me to add a lot of colour to their performances, as I was umpiring Team Anderson, but two of Locks Heath's coaches were full of praise for Team Bairstow. In particular they complimented the quality of our bowling, batting and fielding or various Portsmouth players. Coach Doug also singled out both Rueben's (we had two) and Owen.

Team Anderson, who played in pool 4 faced two sides, Fareham and one from Locks Heath. The boys in Team Anderson, proceeded to give 110 per cent both in the field and with the bat, comfortably winning both games. The third side we were due to face had pulled out, so Locks Heath replayed us with an extra player. While the result was similar, it was great to see an improvement by both sets of players.

In all three pool games, the boys of Team Anderson scored over 200 runs, which is testament to the quality of their bating and a good number of boundaries, both fours and sixes. In particular Henry, Ethan, Heath and Edward hit multiple sixes to the delight of the crowd.

Finishing top of the group Team Anderson moved to the semi final, facing a tough and determined Locks Heath side. In a tightly contest game Portsmouth won by a little over 20 runs. It is important to mention just how hard the boys fought for this as at one stage in the game, our opponents had the upper hand, but some rapid bowling and tight fielding saw the game decisively swing back to Portsmouth.

On to the final and another Locks Heath side. I could try and make an excuse here, saying the boys were tired, or that they ran out of steam, but the reality was that we were out played in the final - not in the field, but when we batted. Locks Heaths produced some of the best bowling we have seen this season. Accurate, fast and consistent. It was a pleasure to watch and demonstrated to the boys, that even though they have made huge progress in all aspects of their own game, there are still areas we can work on.

It is also important to congratulate both our teams for their amazing efforts. They should feel incredibly proud of how they played both as individuals and as two teams that we put together for this fun day of cricket.

Finally I want to thank Coach Doug and all the parents, grandparents and siblings who attended the day to cheer us on.

Well done boys!

N.B. I will be adding in the batting scores I have, but I do not have a complete set of sheets. Currently I have added four innings, two pool games, the semi final and final. These do not include wickets taken as I do not add these in. I will try and add in the bowling figures on a similar basis soon.
