Match report Welcome to the new season!

The U11Bs (East) took to the road for their first game of the 2019 season. On a sunny evening, we faced our opponents Havant, at their ground next to the train station, with a new look side, Captained by Heath.

After winning the toss, Heath decided to field, opening the bowling with Thomas, producing some pacey deliveries that troubled the batters and taking three wickets.

Not to be outdone our next bowling pair, William and Harry continued this excellent bowling display, taking four wickets between them. Joseph followed with some accurate line and length deliveries and taking a well-earned wicket.

Bringing us to the final pairing of Rueben and Edward, who took a well earned three wickets, amongst some very stiff opposition from Havant’s final two batters, one of whom scored the games only six, which sailed over everyone’s head. Then in the very next over, there was a great caught and bowled by Edward, which was sailing straight at the umpire’s head.

There was a good performance from our man behind the stumps, Adam, who clung on to everything.

Following a quick change around, the boys set about the task of getting the necessary runs.

The top knock was Reuben with an impressive 25, but all of the boys contributed to our tally and although there was some interesting shot selection, it is clear they all have improved over the winter.

I also want to flag up an outstanding performance by our Super Sub, George, who we lent to Havant, in a decision I nearly came to regret, as he took three wickets and scored runs as well. Well done!

Man of the match, decided by the coach and manager, was Rueben, but it could easily have been any of the boys as they all played really well.

Finally a big thank you to Havant and their coach, our scorer who was pressed into the position on the day, our coach Jack for preparing the boys and to all the parents for their support.

Our next game is this Sunday at home and I look forward to seeing you all then.
