So the first home game of the season was played on a chilly and overcast Sunday morning against Liphook.

Captain Edward won the toss and decided to field, much to the delight of the boys and Bethan. What followed was an excellent display of bowling and fielding, which showed an improvement on our previous game.

Heath kicked off proceedings with some excellent line and length balls, ably supported by Joseph, who took 2 wickets. Next up was Thomas, who took a brace and William who took a well-deserved wicket. Hard on their heals were Bethan, (2 overs, 1 maiden for 5), Reuben (3 overs, 1 maiden for 8) and Edward. Complimenting the bowling was some sensible fielding. This helped to restrict our opponents 89 off their 16 overs.

Following the changeover, the team set about the run chase with the same focus they had displayed in the field. Heath top-scored with an aggressive 39, with Thomas (12), Bethan (12), Adam (10), Reuben (23) and Edward (13) getting into double figures.

As the manager, I was particularly pleased with Joseph and William who faced some very tough bowling from a good team, but they defended their wickets brilliantly and played some textbook shots – Jack was pleased as well!

In total the team clocked up an impressive 187 and secured a second win of the season.

Sounding like a broken record, this was a team effort, making it extremely difficult to pick the man of the match - Everyone had given 110 per cent and should be pleased with their individual performances. After some debate though, Jack and I awarded it to Thomas, who contributed with the ball and the bat - but again it could have gone to any of the team – well-done team!
