Match report Leaving Portsmouth in blazing sunshine, we arrived in drizzle that quickly became a heavy downpour. We were more eager to start than the weather was to stop, and with the rain still falling our innings began. With a slippery pitch (James flat on his back from the first ball) running appeared tricky, Jude run out, but as it turned out this was the only wicket we lost. There were contributions from all of the team, with particular mention to Amelia and Jake who batted really well against their best bowlers, Jasper who was hitting the ball cleanly and Sam and Dexter who entertained with the bat (but mostly, repeatedly, Sam running all the way to the other end and shouting at Dexter to run). Portsmouth 140-1 was a formidable target.

Burridge got underway quickly, Jude not quite on target as they posted 33-0 for the first pair, but Amelia and Jake pegged them back with a wicket each, and some good fielding saw the first of our four run-outs; 46-3 and hard to come back from. Jasper and Xavier tightened the knot, Xavier accurately throwing down the stumps from behind the wicket, and James with a sliding stop and race to the stumps at mid-on to run out another as Burridge slid to 64-6. Sam and James finished things off, the last 2 overs going for 5 off the bat. Burridge 84-7, just as the rain started again. James's kit is going to take some washing.
