Match report The first run out for the U9A team, boasting some new faces from last season, brought a closely fought away win against a Havant side that boasted some experienced players.
Bowling first, Portsmouth managed to take wickets regularly through the innings. There was some great bowling on a very green wicket and runs were hard to come by for Havant. Fortunately for them, We did supplement their score by bowling a number of wides and missing a few balls in the field. That said, a few catches were taken and run outs made. At the change of innings Havant had been reduced to 127-9.
After a quick chat to remind batters about calling when running and trying to hit any balls that were wide of the stumps, Portsmouth started their innings.
A very solid start from Jasper and Hadley lead us to 32-0 after the first 4 overs. Corey and Charlie continued to add runs and only lost a couple of wickets in their 4 overs at the crease.
Some quick singles and a lovely four from Matthew moved us onto 83-4 with the last pair entering the fray with the match very closely poised.
A swashbuckling first over which saw a couple of beautiful shots for four from James set up the victory which was rounded off nicely by a couple more boundaries in the final over to see us finish on 117 - 4.
With the addition of 5 runs per wicket taken, Portsmouth ran home winners by 15 runs (162 to 147).
Highlights included catches from Xavier and James, a couple of run outs, boundaries for several players and a 6 from Jasper.
