Match report Another excellent performance by the U11As, this time against Burridge. What we're coming to realise is that in this format, if you put in a good bowling performance, and you have a couple of batters who retire, you will win most of your games. That's what Portsmouth did and more in this match - a careful start after winning the toss, with Dexter bowled by Arnav, who in partnership with Louis made things difficult for us. James and Vi were watchful to start, but a terrible mix-up saw both batters at the same end, with Vi run out. James and Sam really picked things up in the middle overs though, capitalising on a number of no-balls from one of the Burridge team (may have been a 13 ball over). After both retired, Freddie unleashed the fireworks with four consecutive fours through midwicket, while George took his time but marshalled the innings in the final overs, hitting 14 off the last.

In reply, Portsmouth's bowling was very tight, James and Jude keeping the runs down and the first wicket falling to George, with the score 10-1 in the 5th over. George was a genuine threat in swinging conditions, taking a wicket in each of his 3 overs, and by the end of the 8th over Burridge were 24-3, with Sam also chipping in. It was a top team performance, with catches for keeper Vi, James N, Sam and Freddie; a really sharp caught-and-bowled for Freddie and run outs for James Vick and Dexter. Burridge stuttered to 74, the last wicket falling with a crazy run on the last ball.

Well done Portsmouth! Next up is likely to be a tough one against Grayshott, after this match I'm really looking forward to it!
