Match report A really great game of cricket for the boys. Freddie lost the toss and Hambledon chose to bat - openers James and Jude bowling well but Hambledon's openers saw them off. It wasn't until George came on that we made a breakthrough, with 2 wickets in his first over. With one opener retiring, Hambledon started to accelerate towards the end of their innings, James Vick going for 18 off his second over after taking a wicket in his first. But JV and Freddie came back well, Freddie taking a caught and bowled as 3 fielders nearly knocked each other out at cover (get a name on it!), and JV taking his second with a nonchalant catch by Dexter at point. With the final batter retiring, Hambledon closed their innings at 113.

A much slower start in Portsmouth's reply saw Dexter bowled 2nd ball, but Vi and George picked things up quickly to take us to 30-1 after 4. The game see-sawed, with both Vi and George out for 10 and Portsmouth regrouping with Sam and James N, we were 50-3 at the halfway point, behind the rate but in touch. Both batsmen bided their time, and Sam retired after taking his chance against one of their bowlers, taking them for 20 in an over including a six over backward square - Portsmouth were in control needing 6 off the last 3. Enter their keeper, changed out of pads to bowl a maiden to Jude. The next over went for just 3, Portsmouth needing 3 to win from the last against their best bowler. A dot, a bye through to the keeper left us one to tie - Jude then pumping the bowler through mid-on to come through for the winning runs.

Well played all, against the same team that comprehensively beat us in our season opener. We've come a long way in the right direction since then!
