Match report It’s the summer of 2022. English Test match cricket has gone a bit crazy and so, it seemed, had the U11’s format.

A glorious evening in a stunning setting saw Portsmouth win the toss and field first. What happened next was incredible and the best display of bowling and fielding I’ve seen all season.

Jude and George opening with their usual high pace and accuracy . Jude taking a wicket with the very first ball and neither bowler giving anything away. Sharing 2 wickets each after the first 2 overs the score was 4-4. It felt like a slight imbalance in the teams and so both George and Jude graciously agreed to bowl slower. Jude deciding to bowl spin taking a further 3 wickets. George wasn’t done either sneaking out one more to end the pairs opening overs at 17-8. A brilliant display of bowling with five for Jude and 3 for George.

Things didn’t get any easier with Xavier and Jake in next . First up Xavier , on the back of a “five for” the day before and high in confidence. It looked like he must have kept practising in his sleep striking 3 times with his first 3 balls, and twice in his second over for 7 runs. There were still wickets to be had though with Jake being persuaded once again to bowl his gentle leg spin (thanks Tom J) nipping out another couple of wickets and an excellent stumping from Thomas.

At the halfway mark the score was 36-16 , but the B’s were really fired up and on fine form. Jamie up next with a brilliant wicket maiden , a direct hit from Xavier and some great bowling from Alex who kept things extremely quiet with only 3 runs coming from 3 overs .

Everyone bowled brilliantly with Ollie finishing things up with a maiden and only 4 runs from 2.

The Sarisbury innings 51-18 - There were catches , there were direct hits , stumpings and clean bowled with only 3 wides and one no ball in the entire innings. What was also impressive was the level of support for each other and the extremely high energy levels from start to finish.


Thomas and Ollie opened the batting to a mixed bag of bowling but still managed get things moving with a couple of big fours. It was inevitable that a few shots would be played so not surprising that we were a couple of wickets down after the first four. Things slowing down a little for Jake and Xavier with a mixture of no balls and decent bowling.

Jude and George up next coming out very strong adding 49 runs without loss with George hitting 3 fours from his first over. Both batsmen playing really well. Jamie and Alex finishing off the innings really well with some great pull shots to the boundary. The final innings score 134-3

This was a really great all round team effort with some stand out performances which deserve special mention
