Match report Finally some cricket! Portsmouth U9s welcomed Locks Heath to St Helens on Friday evening for the first friendly fixture of this summer and enjoyed a super evening of cricket.

Jake took on the captaincy and won the toss, opting to field first. Some great fielding with loads of highlights, including a dramatic caught and bowled from Sam as well as bails tumbling from William, Leo and Sam again. Fantastic concentration (for a Friday evening!) and great backing up in the field put the opposition under pressure and a couple more wickets tumbled from stumpings and some great boundary saves from Lily.

Opening the batting was James V who pushed 7 runs off the bat in the first over and in his pairing with Sam between them made 26 runs, including 5 boundaries against some fairly rapid bowling. Up next was James N and Leo who looked at every opportunity to take those singles and doubles as well as 3 boundaries, totting up 24 in their pair for no loss of wickets. Jake and William patiently waited out the extras and were rewarded with two boundaries for William. Lily and Thomas as our final pair faced some trickier dot ball bowling, but experience shone through for Lily and saw her hit a boundary in the final ball of the match!

Portsmouth finished on 148-4, 19 runs ahead of Locks Heath on 129-7, a well worked victory. Portsmouth pair of the night went to Leo and James N for excellent effort in both batting and bowling/WK pairings which shows through in their scores. Coaches player went to Lily for an all round good performance. Well done everyone and welcome back!
