Match report The U9's welcomed Gosport to St Helens on a busy Friday night, hosting two friendly fixtures across the squad. Portsmouth's U9As were led out by Captain James V, who elected to bat first and joined his strike partner Sam at the crease. As usual the pair were entertaining and after four overs together had a tidy total of 47 posted on the board. Next up were James N and Leo who nudged some super singles, as well as a few boundaries and a six for Leo, finishing up with a 24 run partnership. Facing some trickier bowling were Vi and William who held up the dots well and the innings were closed out with Oli and Eddie taking the team to 110 off the bat.

In the excitement of our batting innings, Gosport had managed to grab themselves 10 wickets so had a good head start on our total going into bat. St Helens often produces surprises and our little cricketers were determined to keep things lively, taking back all of those 10 in good form with some great action in the field including three stumpings. Of particular note was James N who bowled a double wicket maiden, taking a total 4 wickets with only 1 run off 12 balls - watch out Dad, I think you have some competition! It was getting very close in the last couple of overs and Vi closed the game bowling a wicket on the penultimate ball. It was an extremely close run match and Gosport just pipped us to the post with final adjusted scores of 170 versus our 160. Well played all, a great evening of cricket!
