Match report After winning the toss and electing to bat, Daring got off to a cautious but steady start with Xavier and Thomas. Xavier taking a lovely four to a massive boundary off the 4th ball. However, Burridge finally found their line and length and from that point bowled consistently well, regularly taking wickets but equally keeping the score pegged back. At the halfway point Daring had only managed 36 runs, but were 4 down.

The visitors really struggled to score from what was at times hostile bowling . Alex high scorer (17) did manage to cleverly find the gaps which has been a feature of his game in the last few matches was the only player to reach double figures.
The final pair of Owen and Jake deserve special mention for their resolute approach at the crease managing to survive their most hostile bowlers with the odd one jumping up of the grass. Jake taking one on the grille pushing him back into his crease and finally being bowled. Between them they faced almost 7 overs and whilst they sadly didn’t manage to score too many they played with real grit and determination with Burridge throwing their fastest most aggressive bowlers at them.

The innings were almost bowled out with one ball to spare the final score 60.

It didn’t feel like enough to defend, and Burridge were definitely determined to get a result. It would need something special to sneak a win and Daring started well with only 2 coming off the first over.
The batters clearly wanted to get after Jake with a 4 from his first ball, but 2 big wickets in his first over. However, a combination of some short balls and aggressive batting meant that they were more than halfway at the end of the fourth over even though they were 3 down with Jake getting a 3rd wicket in an expensive 2nd over. It could have been slightly better with Xavier almost taking a stunning catch at mid-on, a ball that was absolutely thrashed. It was a tough chance and great effort. Truly speaking we were at least 30 runs short.
The match ended mid point of the 8th over with some fine shots from Louis ending on 30 not out, the only other wicket taker Jamie who bowled a good over for one run.

The main observation from the game, although Burridge bowled really well, was that we let our wickets fall too cheaply. Showing bowlers of pace all 3 stumps and trying to hit everything straight was our undoing ultimately. Shot selection and playing into the gaps, and most importantly “getting in” is really something to work on. Only 3 of our batters faced more than 10 balls which could indicate a rush to get bat on ball. This is something we really need to work on and will give us a decent total to defend for our next matches.
