Dear Friends and Members of Portsmouth Cricket Club
On Saturday, a Portsmouth XI welcomed Pagham CC to St Helen's for a pre-season friendly. In what was an archetypal early season match, the players deserved a medal for playing in quite chilly, conditions though at least the threatening rain did no more than the occasional spot. Again typical of a preseason friendly there were some rusty performances, though Pagham looked the slightly more prepared team eventually winning the match. The only thing that was not typical of a preseason was the condition of both the wicket and ground. The wicket played well and the ground looked in fine condition - well done to all who helped and especially Rick and Barney for the hours of rolling and cutting.
There are more pre-season friendlies and training sessions coming up, providing opportunities for players to improve skills and prepare for the season.
