Burridge v Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 U9A Warrior on Sun 09 Jul 2017 at 10.00 Confirmed
Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Lost by 31 runs

Match report Another blisteringly hot Sunday morning at Burridge where we battled it out to see who could eat the most cake and drink the most pop at match tea time. There was of course a cricket match to play....

We had already competed against each other 3 times this season, with PCC 2-1 up in the games won stakes. One league and 1 tournament win to PCC and 1 league win to Burridge. Could PCC U9A's make it a win today?

There was no toss today as one of Our Own insisted that this was to be a home game, so Burridge kindly agree to let us bat first whilst he wended his way at 100mph Westwards along the M27 to join us. Not to be outdone, Burridge were also a player down at the toss... No drama, we did our best to chill out in the heat.

PCC started at a lively pace with twins, Will and Alex heaving 6's and clipping 4's to the boundary with the loss of just 1 wicket. They got us up to 222 by the end of their 4 overs.

Huw and George's innings can only be described politely as "A Middle Order Batting Collapse". Geoffrey Boycott would have had something to say about swishing across the line, blah blah blah....Unlucky today boys.

So we move on to the next paring who needed to bat sensibly, not loose their wickets and eek out as many runs as they could, rescuing the team's performance.
Bethan and Monty did a sterling job doubling our runs and pushing the score up to 235.

As has happened so may times in recent games, it was left to James and Heath to push the score as hard as they could in an attempt to build a descent score, Heath sweeping down the leg side for a couple of 4's and James rotating the strike as best as he could.

We finished on 259 for 8 off our 16 overs.

A tough one to defend, but we had a good crack at it.

Another well held catch from Bethan off George's bowling, James had 2 more solid catches off Huw and Heath....you just know they will stick when JB gets close to a ball in the air. Monty shying the stumps to bag the 4th wicket and Will with a clean bowled effort.

Again, it was Heath who was lively in the field, saving a couple of certain 4's and some good supportive chat in the field.

It wasn't enough though and we fell short by 31 runs.

Just 6 wides total from Our U9A's today - 3 outstanding catches. Too many No Balls unfortunately, not enough runs off the bat and 8 wickets falling killed us off to allow Burridge to win the game.

So 2-2, honours even on wins for each club this season.

MOTM - Heath for his fielding and tight bowling - no extras today.
MOTM - James for his catches - no extras today.
