Waterlooville v Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 U11 Daring on Thu 07 Jun 2018 at 6.00pm Confirmed (East)
Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Lost by 9 runs

Match report It was very easy to find things to feel good about in this match, despite coming a very close second. Here are a few Champaign Moments which are still lingering in my mind.

George D, a wicket with the first ball of the game and a maiden over thrown in for good measure.

As a Team, we took 13 of Waterlooville's wickets - one of our best bowling performances this season.

We only lost 5 of our wickets - again, one of our best performances.

Six of our players finished Not Out. Outstanding.

Charlie L with just 2 Byes, not much got passed CL tonight. Lively.

Charles S with 2 wickets in a row, clean bowled - I promise you, it won't be long before one of our own gets that hat-trick. It could easily be Charles S.

A fine run out from James, straight into Charlie L's waiting gloves, hovering around the stumps. They work well together those two.

Caleb, took and held onto two catches, one which flew straight to him, caught even before he know what was happening in his first ever competitive match for Portsmouth CC. Welcome to the team today Celeb.

Some super stroke play by George D and Charles S, creamed to the off side. Indeed, all their runs today were to the off side, up the hill, lovely to watch.

James, four wickets today including a caught and bowled, all his own work.

Sharp fielding by Rio, saving a number of 4's racing to the boundary. Brick Wall Rio, like it.

Harry's 2 wickets, clean bowled in the 19th over. Good Job H.

Charlotte, never giving up and for her perseverance and good running with Rio tonight - 6 singles and two x 2's. Keep Going CP.

Will and Alex for taking on the responsibility of the last 4 batting overs with the game hanging in the balance, only to see it snatched away in the final few minutes of the game. Tough, but well done for not crumbling under the pressure.

There is no doubt in my mind that this will be remembered as a great contest, with both sides competing hard to win the game. Emotions were high and the finish a very tense affair, the crowd gripped with excitement as Portsmouth did their very best to win the game.

In reply to Waterlooville's 154, Portsmouth started off brightly, if a little crazily on a grass wicket not an Astro surface, with James and Charlie L keen to get runs. Between them and off their 4 overs they amassed 23 runs, but we did loose wickets.

The next three batting pairings, Harry and Charlotte / Caleb and Rio / George D and Charles S did not loose a single wicket between them and this really did swing the game in our favour as we progressed towards the tail end of the game.

The pressure was intense in the 18th, 19th and 20th overs, not only did Will and Alex B-H need to score runs to win, they knew they must not give up their wickets cheaply.

Their effort was valiant, but a caught and bowled, single handed, at full stretch and low to the ground in the last over was just too much for Portsmouth, the runs dried up and we fell just 9 runs short.

I cannot fault everyone's commitment tonight and well done everyone for making a game of it.

PoTM - no CW's tonight as the Waterlooville Bar was completely empty of chocolate - I shall be writing to The Chairman:-
***** Caleb for his 2 catches and nifty fielding.
***** James for his 4 wickets, run out and top score of 9 runs

Thank you to everyone for your support, to Simon for scoring and running the team and Oscar for Umpiring.
