Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 U11 Daring v Waterlooville on Sun 15 Jul 2018 at 10.00am Confirmed (East)
Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Lost by 6 runs

Match report There will always be matches to remember and this was certainly one, even though we lost with the last knock of the game. If you were there, you would have been entertained and yes, you would have paid to watch us today, it was that good.

So following the 1st Team victory the day before against Ventnor (that's 4 wins on the bounce for them and up to 5th in the league now. Good job boys), Rick, Barney and George D spent the final few minutes of Saturday evening preparing a proper grass wicket for our U11B game today. Floodlights still burning at 9pm, they were raking, mowing, rolling and marking the wicket so we could return the favour to Waterlooville for allowing us to play on grass at their ground earlier in the season, it was only right as they hosted us well.

Charlotte was our captain today. We lossed the flip and Waterloville opted to bat first. It was another scorcher - additional supplies of squash were drafted in to cope. The bar was also doing a brisk trade in Coke.... Luckily no additional CO2 requirement or shortages here at PCC

Normally, on a Sunday morning we share the ground with either the U11A's or a U13 team. They have first dibs on The Square and we play on the Small Astro at the far end of the ground. Today, we had The Stadium to ourselves, so we decided to push the boat out and use the Large Electronic Scoreboard and added in some music as well - How Cool was that then?

So Glyn was the scribbler, Oscar pressed the scoreboard controller buttons and kept the crowds up todate and Simon went out into the dusty bowl to umpire.

Ville started well but by over 3 Reuban and Jake had pinned them back to just 23.

Charlotte was up next and with her first pitch sent in a great (straight) ball which smashed the stumps, the Ville opener was clean bowled. Great start Portsmouth.

Shyun continued to pin the score back allowing just 1 off his first over. Then Charlotte again, this time a caught and bowled, all her own work, safe hands, Dad looking on proudly and rightly so, she deserved it. Ville were 31 for 2 off 6.

Shyun, tight bowling again and Rio and Sam S not giving much away either. Rio was rewarded with a wicket, clean bowled with the first ball of his second over, Charlies S a wicket and then a maiden over to follow, no runs. Good Job Charles. Nanny and Grandpa travelling all the way from the IoW specially to watch, Mum and Dad looking on with pride.

Drinks were had at 12 overs and we needed it, it was cool on the pavilion decking but The Camels were starting to lollop around somewhat - they needed a top up.

George D continued the PCC attack with his blistering pace and long run up emanating from somewhere near Bembridge on the Isle of Wight, just 3 runs to the opposition, well done Son.

Finally, James with the first of 3 wickets. A clean bowled in over 16 and then a caught and bowled on his first ball of his first over and a replica on his second in overs 18 and 20....we had a bit of deja vue...!

Jake allowing just 6 runs and no extras of his last 2 overs of the game. Impressive.

So Ville's Sub Total was 108 for 7 off their 20 overs. You know the quick maths - it's 35 runs for Portsmouth to start.

We took another slurp of squash, the Large Flashy Scoreboard was updated and we turned around to begin our reply.

It was tough, the Ville attack was fast and accurate, we lost 3 wickets in the first 3 overs. Adam and Reuban soaking up the attack as best they could.

Sam S and Rio were next in and steadied the slightly rocking ship, nicking singles and running byes and leg byes where they could. Neither boys lost their wicket today - thank you.

Next up were Charlotte and Shyun. Charlotte striking a lovely 4 and Shyun supporting where he could. Charlotte finishing Not Out as well - It was definately her day today.

George D and Jake pushed the score up to 106 but by the 16th over we had lost 9 wickets. The game was slipping away from us very fast.

With 50 odd to win, there were some gloomy Portsmouth faces around - the Ville manager was sitting comfortably, although he wasn't complacent by any stretch of the imagination....He had heard of The Mighty U11B's and the comeback was about to start.

Indeed, what happend next was almost a miracle and if had come off The Manager would have definitely tripled Simon and Oscar's Win Bonus....What's 3 x £0? They do it for the Kicks and Giggles of course.

James B and Charles S took to the crease and between them proceeded to thump the final 4 Ville bowlers for a cool 51 runs - 12 an over - unusual in the senior game format, almost unheard of at U11B.

James grabbing 7 x 4's and giving the watching PCC supporters entertainment and hope. James ending on a whopping 33 Not Out and Charles supporting well with a 4 of his own and a cheeky 3 in a brave effort to win the game.

In the last over, both Managers took to the ground leaving their scribbling pencils on the decking, gripped with the excitement and keen to encourage their players with the rest of their supporters.

Chaos (again).

The Ville bowler gifted us 17 off the first 5 balls but it was not to be, we needed 2 off the last ball to tie, took the first and were run out on the return, loosing by 6 runs (it's -5 for a lost wicket) - that's the quick maths but we had made a game of it, so were not downhearted.

Outstanding effort by James and Charles in a brave attempt to win the game.

PoTM and slightly melted Curly Wurlies today (sorry Guys). Maybe you could write a letter to The Chairman?
***** Charlotte - 2 wickets including a Caught and Bowled, a 4 and Not Out - a great all round performance from you today Charlotte. Keep Going Girl.
***** Charles S - A wicket, 10 runs and for supporting James in a brave effort to win the game - you will be this position Charles later in your cricketing career and I promise you, you will win the game for us one day.
***** James B - 3 wickets including 2 caught and bowled, 33 Not Out including 7 x 4's. Outstanding all round performance from you James - Grandma, Mum and Dad were very proud of you.

Thank you to Dev and Nish, (Shyan's parents) for the well prepared match tea and for Dev's nutritional advise - another new team member on the unpaid staff, Rio's Dad for collecting the match fees, Simon for Umpiring and getting the team out and Oscar for working the Scoreboard.
Cherish The Memories everyone.
