Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 U15 Daring v Locks Heath on Thu 07 Jun 2018 at 18.00 Confirmed
Match was Tied

Match report Wow, so for the second season running we tied our game with Lock's Heath, although tonight under much less controversial circumstances and with a very pleasant atmosphere all round!!! Things did not auger well as we only had 8 players to start with, Tim was not feeling very well and possibly 3 other players were going to be late back from school games. As it happened, Tim was fit enough to play and Rohan managed to sneak Will into the team, although they were so late back from their school tournament in Winchester that, with a mad rush back from school, we still only arrived at the club at 6.15. A slightly late start, but with 9 players and different Under 13s again to bolster our numbers, with Will and Adam Edwards. Rohan made a speedy change to open with Gio and they went off like a train, running everything, whether or not they hit the ball, their indoor season having set them up well. Rohan was caught fairly quickly, but Gio carried on, retiring on 42, and has not been out yet in the three B team matches played, which is an amazing achievement. Joseph came in and batted as well as he has all season, but some awful run outs and some decent catches meant that the innings fizzled out at 122 for 7 in the last ball of the 18th over. Having committed the cardinal sin of not seeing out our overs, it looked as though the match may be over very quickly. However, George and Joseph bowled very tightly and, although the first wicket only fell in the 8th over, a super catch by Adam Heyes, Lock's Heath were well behind the required scoring rate. However, their opener started to hit out and, after two big sixes, retired. At this stage, he seemed to have done enough to steer them to victory, but some super bowling from Will and Adam Heyes and some equally good fielding suddenly made the game interesting again. Adam Edwards gave Rohan a perfect throw for one run out, before Joseph did the same for Will and Rohan threw down the one stump he could see while simultaneously appealing for LBW! Adam Heyes bowled two of their players with his accurate spin bowling and then took his second catch from Will's bowling in the last over in which Iori also made a super stop to prevent a 4 that would have won the game. With their last man standing, Lock's Heath managed a single from the last ball of their innings to tie the match. An absolutely super game of cricket which like all the best ebbed and flowed and, despite not winning, a much more satisfying game than the previous easy victories.
