Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Lost by 14 runs

Match report Coming second is not always the best feeling but tonight we can be proud of our performance.
This was our first outing of the season for the U11B West Team, away to Locks Heath.
Simon and I had been sitting at work all morning watching the weather and wondering if that large splodge of Blue and Yellow on the Met Office Rain Radar would head north, skirt south or drive straight over the Rec and spoil our fun.
As it was, the rain stayed away and we got the game on. It was chilly and overcast though.
Locks Heath batted first, facing Rio and Evie who both took wickets in the second and third overs. A great start for Portsmouth.
Ruby-May and Sam S gave little away for their efforts and by the half way stage LH were just 33 for 2 wickets.
Boundary saves from Joe S and the team "walking in" as our bowling attack continued was good to watch.
Veer, our wiki today, took a ball to the knee in the 13th over stopping a certain 4 runs. We halted play for short while to check his well-being. He continued valiantly and was not in the mood for giving up.
Joe S and Maya partnered to have a crack at the LH middle order and Heath joined them at the end to bag a third wicket, caught solidly by Maya.
Portsmouth's innings started steadily with Rio and Evie getting us up to 27 with the loss of just 1 wicket.
Sam S and Ruby-Mae piled on a further 22 runs with a super 4 from RM and some well timed shots from Sam sweeping down to fine leg - 4 runs. Ruby-May Fist Bumping her partner Sam as her way of celebrating his efforts. Great to watch.
Veer, still sore from his earlier injury took a runner in Sam S, and partnered Joe S in getting our score to 45 off 10 overs. Brothers in Arms scampering up and down the astro wicket looking for runs.
We had lost 6 wickets though and despite a Herculean effort from Heath and Maya who put on 46 and giving us hope, we just fell short by 14 runs.
PoM - Maya for her solid catch and super batting, 3x4's, driving the last one straight to the boundary off the last ball of the game. It put a smile on my face for sure.
PoM - Heath for his trademark running, backing up, 2x4's and good clear calling.
