Dear Friends and Members of Portsmouth Cricket Club,

PCC is very keen to remind everyone that we have an active colts section; the club would like to thank all the managers and coaches in making sure the games take place, all the volunteers that umpire, score, provide teas, and last but not least all of the girls and boys representing the club. Keep up the great work and please keep writing those reports that celebrate the achievements of our younger players.

  BATTERED AT BRAMSHAW

Another brief game = Another brief match report.

After last week’s lamentable last ball defeat, Portsmouth 2s were handed a more comprehensive reverse at scenic Bramshaw on Saturday, leaving The Unicorns still searching for their first win of the summer.

Some early morning showers prompted the home side to bowl first, after winning the flip. And the damp surface was certainly spiced up at one end – to such an extent that Nicky Wyatt called for his hard-hat, despite not having any looks (or apparent intellect) to protect. However, it was shoddy shot selection rather than any demons in the deck, that were to blame for the majority of the departures, as the visitors were rolled for a seriously sub-par 134.

The Bramshaw batsmen made their desire for an early finish abundantly clear, as the home side’s openers came out swinging for the fences from ball one. Impressively, youngsters Henry Woolfe and Ethan Randall held their nerve to remove them both without the need for any of the nearby golfers to adopt the foetal position.  Although Woolfe, Randall, and Andy Chapman managed to chip away at the home side’s batting line-up with two wickets apiece, ably assisted by a brace of catches by wicketkeeper Wyatt, and an air-gaspingly comical tumble from Dean Wilson as he attempted to throw the ball back from beyond the boundary, the batsmen simply didn’t put anything like enough runs on the board, as the New Forest outfit sashayed home with 4 wickets to spare.

A return home awaits Portsmouth 2s this Saturday, as they host Basingstoke & North Hants 3s, to continue their pursuit for the winner’s enclosure.
