Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 U11 Daring v Sarisbury Athletic B on Wed 20 Jun 2018 at 6.00pm Confirmed (West)
Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Won by 91 runs

Match report Following Engand's record score of 481 against the Aussies in the Third ODI at Trent Bridge yesterday and today the England Ladies record score of 250 against New Zealand in a T20 at Taunton, the summer of 2018 will certainly be one to remember for scoring runs.

If you were a PCC U11B Team Player today it was your day also to share the Glory and Limelight posting a solid 238 against Sarisbury and falling just 12 runs short of the Ladies T20 Chart Topping Tally.

The excitement was so intense that one of our players lost a tooth..... yes, you guessed it, from eating too many Curly Wurlies during the post match tea. It really was that good.

Sarisbury batted first and our bowlers took little time in taking wickets.

There was fire and desire in both George D and Heath's attack as they took it in turns to have a crack at the opening batsmen. Heath a clean bowled and then a run out 2 balls later in over 3; we were sharp.

Ben and Caleb got a wicket and a run out in both their second overs and by the 8th we had Sarisbury 4 down for a reasonable 59 runs.

Monty and Bethan came in and really slowed the run rate down to a snails pace. The runs dried up, Monty finishing with 2 overs, 2 wickets for a miserly 2 runs and Bethan not far behind with 2 overs, 1 wicket for 6 runs. Great to watch Guys and thank you.

A middle order collapse ensued with wicket after wicket falling over the next 10 overs, 7 scalps all told in that spell, Jack and William contributing and Caleb assisting with a catch off Will's bowling.

James and Charlie L came in at the end to finish off the Sarisbury tail and bagged another wicket with Bethan holding on firmly to a ball from James' lovely to watch loopy spin.

Charlie L was again a Brick Wall behind the stumps and when he came to bowl Jack H took over as gate keeper, saving a good few with just 1 hand. We all bowled 2 overs tonight and we all bowled very well.

Sarisbury's Sub Total was 117 for 10 off their 20 overs.

The Portsmouth innings started on 50 (10 wickets x 5 runs for each loss to PCC) and was led by George D and Ben; George taking 1 in the stomach early on and bravely battling on, replying with a 4 to the boundary, a 2 and a single to finish off his spell. Brave-heart, there was no way he was coming off for a cuddle with his Mum.

Ben cracking a 4 to help the score along to 81 for 1 off 4. A great start Guys.

Caleb and Bethan partnered each other well with just the controversial run out at the non strike end by the bowler (a run out) keeping the conversation and explanations to our teammates flowing. We try and discourage this type of run out at U11B - a warning (from the Umpire to the batsman for being out of his / her crease) is normally the best course of action and then, if not heeded Fair Game - The Manager and Oscar spoke, we all calmed down and the game continued. The score was 103 for 3 off 8.

At each batting change, we took a moment to reflect on the score with our incoming troops, discussing what was required to win the game...you have heard it all before, Sensible Cricket, blah blah blah... You can fill in the gaps and they did what was asked.

William and Monty piled on a thumping 49 runs together, the majority off the bat I hasten to add. Monty with an unbeaten 26 Not Out (5 x 4's and 2 x 2's) and Will supporting on 13 with 2 x 4's - it was entertaining to watch and yes, I would have paid to watch us play tonight.

James and Heath, again another short discussion about how we were going to approach the game. Noted, now lets get on with it please....?! Heath cracking some very solid waist high 4's rocketing to the boundary and of course the trademark cheeky singles to keep the strike rotating - his wagon wheel was reasonably well constructed tonight, with balls flying in all directions....

Charlie and Jacko with a combined total of 57 runs got us to 238. Charlie L on 19 (3 x 4's) and Jack on 16 with an enormous heave for 6 towards Bembridge. We lost the ball a number of times in the sweetcorn thanks to Jack and Charlie, we really must get it cut.....

And so to PoTM and Curly Wurly Time
Outstanding Batting and Bowling by everyone tonight.
***** Monty for his top scoring 26 Not Out and the running as well...2's and singles.
***** Monty again for his 2 overs, 2 wickets for just 2 runs - Controversial, I know, but he did stand out tonight don't you think?
Please, please don't tell Monty's Mum he got 2 Curly Wurlies tonight, I really will get the sack and reported to the Child Welfare Officer....Chris will never talk to me again cos he was "In Charge", I will loose a friend and then who will do the scoring next time? If i wus you and you value your spectator time, I'd Keep Schtum.
Julia, thank you for producing the Lovely Match Tea - Super sausage rolls, I had 3 by the way. Were they home made?
Oscar and Charlie L's Dad for Umpiring tonight and to Simon for winning us the game.
Life is Good.
