Match report After a period of rain it was a pleasant surprise that we were able to host Hambledon U15’s on Thursday . Unfortunately the rain did have an impact as the wicket which played wonderfully on Sunday was low and slow. Playing straight was the message to both bowler and batsman. From Hambledon Jack Thistlewayte retired 40* demonstrating that straight hitting will reap rewards having hit a couple of sixes back over the bowlers head. Likewise, Portsmouth’s Joe Kooner-Evans bagged 5 wickets by putting the ball on the stumps. Ultimately it is was low scoring game with Hambledon bowled out in 16 overs for 85 - our reply didn’t really get going, with our batsman struggling to get scoring we lost our last wicket in the 20th over reaching 75.
As a lesson for our guys who fielded and bowled well is the importance of shot selection in difficult conditions, especially to develop shots that will help them to tip and run.
