Nothing lasts forever. Even the longest, the most glittering run of wins must come to an end someday, as Francis Urquhart might say and so it did for the U11Bs East. A new look team took to the field against Waterlooville, under the captaincy of Thomas and were put into bat. On a fast track, the boys faced some pacey and accurate bowling, which made run-scoring very difficult. Part of this was some good fielding by our opponents and part of this was a lack of calling and backing up as we struggled to move the run rate on. Then there was the fall of wickets. From a side that has been remarkable over the season in protecting their wickets, the thud of ball on stumps was heard with alarming regularity (8 in total). Top scorers were Heath (14), Rueben (12) and Edward (17). At the end of the innings the boys had struggled to 98 for 8.

After a quick change around and some much-needed water, the boys took to the field. Knowing we needed wickets and early ones, Heath and Rueben duly obliged taking a brace each. A good start which was followed up by Darby, Joseph, Edward and Thomas who all took wickets, but in the middle of the match we continued to leak runs, a combination of byes, wides, no balls and even some overthrows. Nothing should be taken away from our opponents who looked sharp between the wickets and stole a number of quick singles by good running.

As Waterlooville's penultimate pair came to the crease they were already level pegging and continued to add to their tally, although at a slower rate, eventually clocking up 167 against to our 138.

Man of the match went to Darby, who took his first wicket of the season and scored runs without losing a wicket.
