Match report THOMPSON 'EDS THE WAY BUT 4S COME UP SHORT

After a false start at St Cross when the 4s reached 104 for 8 in the 23rd over before the rain, Purbrook 2s ran out comfortable winners on The Heath.

Ed Thompson (59 in 79 balls with 11 fours) registered his first fifty in open age cricket, with some of his drives drawing gasps of admiration from the balcony.

Only Rick Marston (3 in 41 balls) kept him company after 5 wickets fell in 8 overs.

Left armer Price (4 for 25) and Harradine (3 for 21) made hay, while the experienced Tim Bailey (12*) nursed the visitors to a fifth batting point.

Despite a wobble against Rahul Rai's slow left arm (2 for 24), the home side cracked 22 boundaries to canter home in the 24th over with 4 wickets in hand.
