Match report Match Report PCC Ladies v Ryde (A)
12 players all in Navy Blue Portsmouth Hoodies (they looked so smart) and Parents all boarded the Hover for our trip to Ryde.

The Barton’s (Kate the mum and Alex the big hitting 🏏daughter) had agreed to minibus us from the Hover the short trip to Ryde CC.

A lovely picturesque ground. A very warm day but quite a breeze and overcast.

Emily lost the toss and Ryde put us into bat!! Emily would have put them into bat if she’d won the toss.

So we got off to a fabulous start, Ryde’s bowling was fierce with Alex Barton firing some aggressive pace very accurately at the stumps.

Darcey and Emily had a great partnership of 57 off 8 overs before Emily was bowled round her legs for 9.

Abi joined Darcey and continued to move the score forward with a decent partnership keeping Alex out. It was clear Alex was gunning for Darceys wicket and she was going to bowl all her 5 overs to capture Darcey who was playing well. Alex’s last over saw her bowl a ripper that popped up and Darcey’s pull shot was half timed but caught brilliantly one handed when you’d expect it to be dropped 99/100!! Darcey was gone for 43, we lost Freya to Alex in her last over too.

So it was over to Abi, Izzy, Emma, Immy, Kristy, Ruby Mae, Isla and Olivia to try and post a score we could defend. We struggled to score apart from some nice fours from Kristy and RM. We finished on 117.

The task was simple, we could defend this ….. if we can get Alex Barton out.

Ryde opened with a first wicket partnership of 35, before Emily who bowled really well and aggressively trying to force the Alex wicket, bowled the other opener with a delightful slower ball 🏏 Freya opened the bowling too and she bowled the best I’ve seen her bowl, she was so unluckily with many balls missing the edge by mm’s or Yorkers just stopped by the batters. Alex said our bowling made her defend more than ever. Well done the openers, alas Alex and Rhea put on a partnership of 113 before Olivia bowled Rhia with the game taken away from us by Alex 70 not out!! She gave a couple of chances but they were tough to take.

However out of defeat the positives.
- Some fabulous bowling that just didn’t get the breaks, NOTE Only 8extras!!! That’s 3 wides and 5 no balls (beamers not over steps) and No Byes or Leg Byes !! I couldn’t ask for more in that department Well done Bowlers and well done Darcey WK and Judith WK - we swapped around so Darcey could bowl too. Judith’s first time behind the stumps in the League for the Ladies, lovely to see.
Batting we still need lots more work Ladies, defending, scoring, coaching, practice but a few positives,
- Emily and Darceys partnership, - - Abi sticking around so long it really helps,
- RM and Kristy’s 4’s and lastly - - - Darcey’s 43.

So Leading Lady is Darcey for her 43, her WK and 2 overs for only 4 runs when Alex was booming most stuff to the boundary.

Next we take on Hursley for the league decider.

The DIv 3 title will be decided on average points over the season to allow for concedes etc.

Portsmouth are leading 2.86
Hursley are second 2.67

So it’s simple. We win on Sunday, we win the league.

Currently I have only 9 showing as available for Sunday 7th v Hursley ……. Come on Ladies, those that have thanks. Those that haven’t please do.
