Match report A slightly blowy but sunny evening saw Portsmouth losing the toss and being put into bat.
First up Jude and Thomas who faced some excellent bowling with 4 wickets tumbling for 28 runs. Jude clearly wasn’t in the mood for running, scoring most of his runs with boundaries including an excellent 6 scoring 17 without loss. The middle overs dropped back to a serene pace with singles and a fair few wides keeping the score board slowly ticking over for the loss of only one wicket due to a close run out in the 6th.
The final pair Oliver and Lucas stepped up a gear with some great shots from Oliver who added 29 between them. Final innings scores 107-5
Jude & Freddie opened the bowling to some really solid batting from the Locks Heath openers who managed 36 for the loss of one wicket. Wickets and straight balls were needed to stand any chance of winning and Eddie and Jake didn’t disappoint with some tight bowling to only concede 15 runs from their four overs with 2 wickets, including a great catch from Freddie from Jakes bowling.
Next up were Xavier and Lucas who managed to skittle out a couple more wickets with some great fielding and a brilliant run out (Jude). The score after the 12th was 87 – 4 meaning the visitors needed to chase only 15 for no wickets to win. With 10 (and a wicket) coming from the 13th it was going to be tight and needed something special to happen. Jude didn’t disappoint again and skittled out 2 more wickets for 2 runs and Ollie bowling a very important penultimate, tight wicket over, for four runs in the 15th.
103-8 meaning the scores were almost level but Portsmouth having the 3 extra wickets meant that Locks Heath needed 12 from the last over. They never gave up against the last over from Freddie but the extra run out wicket just enabled Portsmouth the narrowest of wins by 7 runs.
A really good team effort and showed great spirit in not giving up with the more senior hard ball players helping and supporting the less experienced. Well played Bees
