Match report An interesting game this one, and a great lesson for the kids on a turning grass wicket against a team with 3 decent spinners. Earlier on in the season we had rolled Havant for 26, but with them winning the toss and inserting us the boot was soon on the other foot. James V and Freddie opened, Freddie bowled early on, but James N at 3 briefly flickered, with the score moving to 27-1 after 5 overs. But then the wickets started tumbling - James N caught at point, Sam bowled around his legs next ball, George and Dexter caught, Jude LBW, Alex bowled - all while James Vick watched on from the non-striker's end! Almost all of our problems arose from playing across the line to moving balls - definitely a lesson in playing to the pitch conditions there. Our total, all out for 43, was always going to be tricky to defend...

We got off the the right start with James N finding the edge early, but from there Havant saw off the openers and it wasn't until Sam came on that things started moving. Sam bowled straight, full and within himself to cause problems for all the batsmen, bowling 4 of them to give a wink to an unlikely result. However, it wasn't to be, and problems with overthrows and no-balls plagued us as Havant hurried towards the win, reached just shy of 10 overs.

Hopefully this one will give the kids a good feel for why the coaches always try getting them onto the front foot - you can get away with so much on a bouncy artificial track! Lots to learn as we move into our last 2 games.
