Match report Another thriller, with apologies for the late finish but what a great set of memories for all the team last night at St Helen's.

Hosting Locks Heath, Dexter won the toss and chose to bat. A bright start from James N and George saw James run out at the end of the 2nd over (20-1), but then Dexter, George and Sam both fell by the 5th over (34-4) - Locks Heath well on top and Portsmouth into collapse territory. A really solid fight back from Freddie and Jude saw us towards a decent total. They played circumspectly but took on chances against the bad balls to take us to Freddie's retirement around the 14th over (92-4). Contributions all the way down the order, with a 4 from the last ball by Will, took us to 110 from 18, Jude finishing unbeaten on 29.

A good start in reply with James N bowling one opener 2nd ball and the other run out, but Locks Heath were staying close to the rate on 36-2 after 6 overs; and despite George demolishing one batsman's stumps, Sam and Will had expensive days and Locks moved to 69-3 off 10. It was James V, Dexter and Freddie who put the brakes on - Dexter pulling off a surprise for everyone (except Dexter) as he bowled their last main batsman; and Freddie bowled with a wide angle around the wicket to cut the batsman in half and kiss leg stump. Locks Heath were into last man standing territory, needing 11 to win from 22 balls. With their last man hitting out, there were critical stops in the field from James N and Will. The match was finished off with the return of Jude, who needed just 1 ball to bowl the last man, cueing huge celebrations and a huge team group hug!

A really good victory - and life lessons abound! Cricket's so often a game that gives you a chance if you hang in there and take the opportunities when they come - the boys all did that yesterday, and can be rightly proud.
