Match report Our last league match of the season, played in the roasting heat at Sarisbury. Some changes to the team, with Alex and Jasper both playing their first game for the A's.

The choice at the toss was absolutely clear: bat all day long, but unfortunately we lost it. Jude opened the bowling with immediate rewards, George making good ground at mid-off to catch one opener. James at the other end started with wides, but found his line and in his second over bowled another 2 batsmen. A great start with Sarisbury 20 after 4 overs, with 3 of their best batsmen back in the shed. From then, though, the wheels definitely wobbled if they didn't fall off entirely. George had a bit of a mare, struggling to find his length, and got the treatment, as did Sam Martin - although there was some very good fielding with James in particular stopping some rasping drives to save 8 runs. Jasper though bowled a fantastic line and length on debut, going for just 8 off his first 2 overs. With Sam coming from behind the stumps to bowl we started to exert more pressure - and Alex's bowling has come a long way, bowling really well and taking a crucial wicket. James returned for a third over, needing just 1 ball to wrap up the innings. At the halfway point Sarisbury were 87 off 9. To finish them off after 16.1 overs for just 138 was a real achievement.

After plenty of drinks we were ready to bat. James and George opened, with Sam joining after George was bowled in the 1st over by their quick left armer. James and Sam scored quickly, James memorably larruping their opener through midwicket on a free hit, but Sam was out at the end of the 3rd over to the same bowler with the score on 28-2. Jude came to the crease, getting his eye in while James kept the scoring rate up at the other end - James retiring at the end of the 8th over. Jasper and Jude then started to really press the fielders, Jasper confidently pushing the ball around as we moved to 103-2 after 12 overs. Jude retired with the shot of the match - a lofted drive over the bowler's head, while Jasper continued to belie his nerves, looking every inch the seasoned player. Joined by Amelia, they continued to press hard, ticking off the runs, and likewise when Alex joined him. In the end, Jasper hit the winning 2 runs, scraping home to avoid a run-out on the final ball.

A glorious way to end the league season against a really good side, and a game played in excellent spirit. The U11As have come so far since the start of the season, and it's a genuine pleasure watching them enjoying the game like they did last night, with important contributions from old hands and new faces alike. Well done everyone!
