Match report A tough one with lots of lessons - a strong start for Portsmouth bowling first, James taking 2 in an over and a run out, before Locks Heath's middle order opened up against Owen and Thomas. They were quick on anything short, hitting to a short leg side boundary, and two retirees finished on sixes. We gave away a few too many without a dive, and it showed in their total of 135. Alex and Owen finished stronger, with a wicket apiece, and Izzy bowled tightly. From the umpire's perspective, it's always worth an appeal - one of their batsmen was plumb LBW but nobody asked the question (and in which case, I can't give it out!).

Batting, it was a very chaseable total, but dot balls were the killer. James and Jasper shared a very good partnership, but otherwise we struggled to get it away. From needing less than a run a ball, the rate slowly climbed and we couldn't get over the line. A bit of frustration crept in here - there's no need to smash the ball, when placing the bat on it and guiding the pace on it will get runs.

We'll be working on increasing the intensity and positivity in the field and with the bat in training - roll on next week!
