Match report Another gloriously sunny yet somehow managing to be as cold as the Arctic for a home match for Emily’s Emeralds.

Emily walked up to the crease….and lost the toss! A good luck charm we have now come to love. Railway Triangle chose to bowl and in we went to bat. Chloe (welcome to the team 😊) and Emma to open. A slightly unagreed with LBW and Emma was out quite quickly. Freya walked in and was caught out in the same way. A few raised eye brows by the scorers (but we are silent and unbiased…) and an understandably cross Freya walked off. Alexis in and a longer partnership occurred with Chloe who was doing a sterling job at hitting 4s and running for singles and doubles. Alexis then out and Neev (welcome to Ladies Neev!) in and a much longer partnership of 15 overs (just counted in the book – well done the pair of you!). Not sure if Neev or Chloe out, but either way, Chloe managed 58 runs, including seven 4’s before being bowled out – fantastic effort, you can play again! 😊

In walked Emily, our valiant captain, not to be outdone by Chloe, whacked 4s left and right, getting eight 4s, one 6 (go girl!!) and scored 52 before being bowled out- fabulous job Emily! Evie, Isla Hila and Abbie all came in to bat, all getting at least 1 run for the team and at 35 overs we had 202 runs, a very good effort by all.

Match tea supplied by Emily – she was on a roll (and scone, and cake) thanks Emily, then out to bowl.

Fast and pace were Evie and Emily this time and what a start – Evie got 2 wickets in the first over!! Emily followed with a maiden over and then another wicket by Evie in the 5th and then 2 more by Emily in the 6th so 5 wickets in 6 overs. Exceptional play girls! It then however took another 20 overs to get the next wicket but Abbie (welcome!) walked up to the crease and got 2 in one over – absolutely stunning. Amelia and Neev also had maiden overs, keeping the opposition runs low. Isla was running around stopping boundaries, at least once with her ankle-ouch, taking one for the team. Body parts were being used frequently, Freya’s knee and body on mass sliding to stop a boundary, Emily’s foot for another. Emma wicket keeping valiantly throughout the game.

Evie was brought in with a hope to get her 5th wicket but unfortunately due to 2 no balls had her last ball of the over taken off her (☹ - rules – who needs them!) so missed out on her 5th wicket (one might argue she did have 7 overs to get it in….) and the final wicket was taken by Freya, sweet vengeance for the earlier decision of the day. 122 all out and victory was ours!
Thank you Paul Wolf(e) for umpiring and teaching me rules I most definitely didn’t know, Paul Watkinson for helping with scoring and Emily for tea and for being a fabulous captain – Emily’s Emerald’s do it again! Well done team, great match 😊
