Match report One where we flirted with disaster. Jim won the toss and chose to bat, opening with Jasper. A quick start from Jasper, but when he was caught behind, a mini collapse ensued losing Harry and James Vick as well for 5 runs, leaving us on 22 for 3. Jim and George led the recovery, seeing off their handy openers and then starting to capitalise, choosing to go after the bad ball with good judgement. When George retired, Sam continued his rich vein of form, hitting 2 sixes and 2 fours. Jim retired in the 14th over, before another clutch of wickets ensued as we slid from 132-3 to 134 all out, leaving almost 5 overs unplayed. Their opener Jim Miles finished with excellent figures of 4-18.

Alex opened the bowling for Portsmouth, bowling tight lines and restricting their openers, but the first wicket was an excellent run out by Xavier at point. And then Harry came on, his first over a triple wicket maiden. P&S, reeling on 22-4, couldn't recover from there, and wickets for Xavier, Jim (2) and the golden arm of JV finished them off just after the halfway mark.

The side showed a good deal of resilience in the way they dug in today, and fielded well. I overheard opposition parents saying 'there's no free runs' - and it looked pretty oppressive for the P&S batters - an excellent fielding performance. Well done and fingers crossed for good weather on Friday,
