Match report We've had a few matches this season where lots have things have clicked - this was our first win against a bit of a bogey team in Grayshott - a very well-organised side, in a game that meant a lot to both teams, and this group of players' first foray into the Hampshire Cup quarter finals.

James didn't have his lucky coin, but won the toss nonetheless and put Grayshott in, setting an inspired field for Jude that had 3 behind square on the boundary - and apart from fine leg, only one on the legside. A field offering runs, if you'd like to play across the line. What followed was pretty compelling, with Jude bowling very quick, straight and full to remove Henry, Jamie and Charlie in the first over, all bowled. James Vick opened with him, getting one to stop on the pitch and bowl the batsman for four down. Jude bowled all 4 overs straight through, also removing the dangerous Oli who had struggled to 5 from 19. Overall it was the best spell of quick bowling most will have seen in this age group, 4 wickets for just 5 runs - rapid and accurate. In support, the fielders set the standard and stuck with it, with Jim, Xavier, Tom and Sam all stopping boundaries with full commitment - and Jasper exemplary behind the stumps, with a stumping from Harry and a catch off Jude. With Jude bowling at that pace with a crosswind, there aren't many keepers who would enjoy their job, but Jasper did brilliantly. If Grayshott were hoping for a let-up with the change bowlers, they got Harry and Jim, who took another wicket each. And if they were expecting respite after that, they had Sam and Xavier to come - this is a team that bowls very deep. Grayshott were all out for 38 in the 12th over as Sam wrapped things up.

Despite the strong performance, nerves were still on show for our reply - but Harry and Tom got Portsmouth off to a confident start. Grayshott, having seen the value of full bowling, went too short for the most part. Harry got off the mark with an uppercut over the keeper (at least, that was the shot he practiced after), and Tom picked up 3 boundaries in 15 off 16. Both were out, Tom to a full toss that narrowly dipped under his waist, and Jim and George finished things off, George playing an audacious ramp to win the match in just over 6 overs.

All in all, a very good match played in good spirit, and the team will pick up a lot of confidence from this. We roll on to the semi-finals and uncharted territory!
