Portsmouth came a distant second after giving Ropley first use of their own facilities on a scorching afternoon.

Musslewhite made an early breakthrough, and Rai (2 for 40) reduced the hosts to 53 for 3.

Marston, Mackenzie and Jones kept it tight but went wicketless as opener Tait (88*) and left hander Lane (53) survived a couple of scares in adding 148 for the 4th wicket.

In reply Adam Smith (32 including 5 fours) batted with assurance, as Stroud and Gray bagged three wickets each.

Rai's run a ball 21 and 19 extras were the only other double figure contributions as the visitors subsided to 107 all out, 117 runs adrift.
