Scorecard

Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 U11A Warrior v Grayshott on Wed 03 Jul 2019 at 6.00 pm
Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Won by 38 runs

Match report "What a Difference a Day Makes" - We haven't had a reference to a song this season, so I thought I would squeeze one in before the last outdoor match is played.
Dinah Washington from the 50's. Famous for singing The Blues - Dinah with the original and various other artists throughout the years.
We've had "The Blues" quite a few times this season - beaten, not heavily - a 35 run loss, 27, 22, One To Forget, then the last match lost by just 8 runs - today we won by 38. Can you see the progress?
Another Grass Wicket prepared by Rick, our Groundsman, The Electronic Scoreboard in action again and those flashing Zinger Bails topping our stumps and this time, we get a result !
A glorious July evening at St Helens. Our Supporters were in high spirits, most with a can or a glass of wine, some with a mug of coffee..??
It's worth mentioning that One of Our Own has been missing for a couple of weeks - Rio has been convalescing so hasn't been able to play cricket, do the washing up, make his bed or complete his homework. The Manager made a call in the week and we quickly promoted Rio to Scoreboard Manager. His father Paul took to the score-book and both did an excellent job of accurately recording our progress.
Portsmouth batted first. We stuttered initially with a couple of unfortunate losses for single figures, then we started to build our score.
Charlie L and Alex B-H partnered well together at No.2 and No.4 - the height difference reminding us of Alan Knott and Bob Willis (do your homework please parents - answers on a post card to The Manager. First one with the correct answer gets a Curly Wurly) - let's not go there shall we, otherwise this match report will go on far too long and we'll all fall asleep reading it, assuming you have not done so already...??
Back to the game. Charlie L an entertaining 24 and Alex, a solid 17 with 4's dispatched to most corners of the ground - one almost reaching Canoe Lake it was struck so hard.
A well deserved retirement from James, 31 Not Out, proving what we already know - he can bat, bowl, field and catch, just not every match, all at the same time, on the same day. Fair enough I hear you say, we are only 11yrs old; and I would agree with you.
Charles S, with a very handy 28 Not Out (4 boundaries) and Monty (10 NO) batting out our overs again to take us to the end of our innings.
Our bowling was also good with wickets shared around the team - Monty, Charles S and Alex B-H and a memorable run out from Darcy C, ball smashing the stumps which got us to 4 Greyshott wickets down - Two of the Greyshott top order batsmen retiring on their maximums.
As dusk fell, the Electronic Scoreboard and tumbling Zinger Bails lit up the ground like something out of an ICC match - lets hope England can do it this year !
PoTM - James B for his 31 Not Out
PoTM - Charles S for his 28 Not Out
PoTM - Charlie L for his 24
PoTM - Alex B-H for his 17
PoTM - Darcy C for her Run Out.
Thank you to Catrin W for the very last minute Dominos Pizza delivery service (For the first time since 2016, we didn't get a volunteer come forward to prepare a match tea and The Manager forgot to ask someone), Bill E for an excellent warm up of the team at the beginning of the game and for umpiring, Fiona S for collecting the match fees, Simon for picking a winning team and to everyone for their support tonight.
